This is a demonstration of an expert system shell based on fuzzy logic. The system can work with a variety of knowledge bases. The one used here shows how fuzzy logic can be used to evaluate different locations for setting up a business.
Because there are quite a few rules, they are listed on a separate page. Clicking here will bring this up on a new tab in your browser. The idea is that the rules are divided into four groups. Each group ranks the location for one particular factor. These factors are: distance from the airport; reputation and efficiency of the local authorities; utilities; and quality of the environment. The first and last group have just one input each. The second group (reputation and efficiency) has two, and the third (utilities) has four, all of which are costs.
To run the system, first use the sliders to enter new values. You can skip this, in which case the system will use the default value, half-way along its scale. Then press the Submit button at the bottom of the form. This will send back a new page with your results. Please note that there may be a short delay. The system generates explanations of its reasoning, and these contain a lot of graphs. Plotting them takes a little time.
