Sample Consultation Using Fuzzy Logic: Inputs

This is a demonstration of an expert system shell for façade selection and optimisation. The system, which uses fuzzy logic, can be programmed with rules that solve a number of different problems in this area. This one is a small demonstration adapted from:

To avoid interrupting the flow of this page, the rules are listed on a separate page. Clicking here will bring this up on a new tab in your browser.

To run the system, first use the input fields to enter new values. You can also load preset values into them with the three "Preset" buttons at the bottom. The first of these loads the values used by the case study in Figure 6 (Page 12) of the paper cited above: we recommend it as a demonstration and as a first test of the system. The Reset button restores all fields to their default values.

Once you have input your values, press the Submit button. This will send back a new page with an estimate for the output variable InsulVertSurf, the level of opportunity of opaque wall insulation explained on Page 9 of the paper.

Please note that there may be a short delay. The system generates explanations of its reasoning, and these contain a lot of graphs. Plotting them takes a little time.

Transmittance of opaque walls: Uwall
Transmittance of opaque roofs: Uroof
Transmittance of glass: Uglass
Percentage ratio of glass and opaque areas: Window to Wall Ratio
Winter energy demand: WinterEnDem
